We bought this North Carolina stoneware jar from a Savannah picker. Here are some tips for evaluating southern pottery.
Based on the color and glaze this most likely came from North Carolina or Georgia. It has some stylistic features of Isaac Lefever (1831-1864) who was a Lincoln County North Carolina potter but there is no identification. The maker of this storage jar may have studied under Lefever. Here’s an example of a signed Lefever piece on the Mesda.org website.
We’re avid buyers of southern pottery. Contact us if you have old southern pottery you want to sell.

We bought this collection of military items because it tells a meaningful story about military service during WWII.
We do buy single items with strong significance to military service but we’d be more inclined to purchase military memorbilia in collections of items that might include military photos and military photo albums, military scrapbooks, tapes or letters that include details of the military service (particularly wartime) or a letter describing the writers military experience. We also buy military medals which include purple hearts.
We buy vintage photos and photo albums from ANY time period. We are vintage photo buyers of photography focused on historical events and people of any type. We also buy photos that tell a story or represent “life in the day”. Click to see all the categories we like to buy.
We buy all types of old, antique and vintage photography. Real photo postcards (RPPC), photo albums, individual photos by noted photographers (i.e. Vechten) or just unique photos, cabinet cards, carte de visites (CDV), tin types, and ambrotypes (glass).

Some people enjoy the experience so much they go out and look for more antiques. If that sounds like you; we’re already looking forward to seeing your discoveries.
We were pleased to buy this jug when a Florida picker called.
Thomas Ritchie (1825-1909) Signed T R and stamped 2, with an unbeatable, high-fired ash glaze and a high neck with three deep score lines under a bold collar that flares out to the spout. The loop handle is high and ribbon-like in movement. These characteristics of the jug that I have noted are shared with early American stoneware examples.
A sought after Catawba County, North Carolina potter.
We bought this Chandler crock from a teacher who is a “picker” on the side. She offered to help a friend with an estate. She knew by looking at the bottom this was an old piece of pottery. A quick search identified it as Edgefield, South Carolina pottery. The crock was in perfect condition. We were thrilled when she called us; we paid her four figures for it.
We’re avid buyers of Edgefield, South Carolina pottery. We also buy pottery from ALL southern states. Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina are the states we typically buy from, but we’re always happy to look. If you have antique pottery to sell send us photos using the form on our website.
